1

Provisional licence

Apply on GOV.UK from 15 years and 9 months. You can start driving on public roads at 17.

New in 2026

Booking rules have changed

DVSA changed how car tests are booked this year to stop resellers charging learners extra for test slots.

You book it yourself

Since 12 May 2026, only the learner can book, change, swap or cancel their own car test. Your instructor can still help you choose when and where.

Two changes only

Since 31 March 2026, you can change a booking twice. After that you’ll need to cancel and rebook.

Nearby centres only

Since 9 June 2026, you can only move your test to one of the 3 nearest test centres.

Tip: only book once we agree you’re test-ready, so you don’t use up your changes. Book your practical on GOV.UK →

FAQs

Questions learners ask us

How many lessons will I need?

Only as many as you need. Everyone is different: some learners need a lot of practice and others very little (one of our learners passed first time after only 8 hours). After your first lesson we’ll give you an honest estimate, and we’ll never keep you booking lessons you don’t need.

Do I need to pass my theory test before I start lessons?

No. You can start lessons as soon as you have your provisional licence and are 17. You will need a theory pass before you can book your practical test.

Do you pick me up?

Yes. We pick up and drop off from home, school, college or work anywhere in our area, at no extra cost.

Can I use your car for my test?

Yes. We offer test-day car hire, which includes a warm-up lesson before your test so you’re relaxed and ready.

Can you book my driving test for me?

Not any more. Since 12 May 2026 only the learner can book or change their own car test on GOV.UK. We’ll help you choose the right time and test centre.

Do you offer automatic lessons?

Not yet, but automatic lessons are coming soon. Fill in the booking form and choose “Automatic” to register your interest, and we’ll let you know as soon as they start. In the meantime, learning in a manual means you can drive both manual and automatic cars once you pass.

I’m really nervous. Is that OK?

Completely. Many of our learners start out nervous. We start somewhere quiet, go at your pace and build up gradually.

What do I need to bring to my first lesson?

Your provisional licence, glasses or contact lenses if you need them to drive, and comfortable shoes. That’s it.

How do I pay?

Pay per 2-hour lesson (£88), or save by booking 6 hours for £252 or 12 hours for £480. Ask us about payment options when you book.
